Born as Justin Randall Timberlake on January 31st, 1981 in Memphis, Tennessee, U.S., a music career was not completely smooth for Justin who first appeared on a U.S. television Talent Show, Star Search in 1992. He was 11 years old. He performed Love’s Got a Hold on You by Alan Jackson. He did not win, but the applause and comments he got from the audiences and judges respectively fanned the flame of stardom in him. It was an early promise of greater things to come.
As expected, the Tennessee-born star continued in his pursuit to get to the top. He auditioned for a role on The All-New Mickey Mouse Movie Club, a Children’s TV Show from Disney. He played the role of a Mouseketeer, starting alongside, his future sweetheart, Britney Spears and future ‘NSYNC bandmate JC Chasez.
The multi-talented pop star has also starred in other movies as his career progressed. These included; Edison in 2005 where he starred alongside Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey, and Alpha Dog in 2006. Also, he lent out his widely admired tenor vocals as he voices a character in Trolls, an animation released in 2011.
In the late 1990s, fame tickled and Justin smiled broadly. He became the lead singer for the boy band, NSYNC, along with JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Lana Bass. They were a musical sensation to listen to.
The band released four studio albums in total. ‘NSYNC’ was the title of their first studio album, released on March 24, 1998 by RCA Records. The album placed them on the map of pop music. They peaked quickly after the release. It debuted at number 82 on the U.S Billboard 200 during the first 2 weeks. Six months later, around October it entered the top 10. The band was talented and they wanted more. They had more to give.
In 2000, they released another album, No Strings Attached. This was the jackpot of it all. Their song ‘Bye Bye Bye’ was a massive hit. It won three American Music Awards and five Billboard Music Awards. With Timberlake as the fans favourite, he sought more.
In 2002, after the release of their fourth studio album, Celebrity, they disbanded and Justin Timberlake went solo. The former boy band star began his solo career by releasing a single titled Cry Me a River from his album, Justified, released in 2002. The song was a commercial hit. It announced his presence as a solo artist of the Pop culture and is here to stay. The song was no.3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
He went on a tour, the Justified World Tour in 2003 to promote his album. He won an endorsement deal with McDonald’s. He earned an estimate of about 6 million dollars from the endorsement deal.
FutureSex/ Love Show was his 2nd solo tour. It started in 2007. It was the 3rd highest-grossing concert of 2007 with 127.9 million dollars recorded from ticket sales. Justin was indeed leaving a mark in the world of Music and Entertainment. This album focused on sexuality and relationships.
In November 2013 in New York City, the Grammy award winner embarked on the third your, The 20/20 Experience World Tour in support of his third studio album. The tour grossed a record amount of $231.6 million from 128 shows. The concert received praise from critics. It was truly an unforgettable experience. He toured from Africa to Asia, North America, Europe, and Oceania. It was truly a blast for his fans. It was the second highest-grossing tour in 2014. He featured Jay Z in one of his songs, Suit and Tie and even did a joint tour with him.
‘Man of the Woods’ was his fourth studio album. It was a country-pop-influenced album, but still maintained the Pop culture versatility he is known for. He featured Chris Stapleton in one of his songs titled Say Something. Other songs included, Filthy, Supplies, etc. It was the sixth highest-grossing tour in 2019 raising $150.6 million in ticket revenue.
The songwriter has won numerous awards that have emphasized his success in pop culture. He has 10 Grammy Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, three Brit Awards, and the Contemporary Icon Award presented by the Songwriters Hall of Fame for attaining an iconic status in pop culture, he has also been the recipient of nine awards from the Billboard Music Awards. He was dubbed the ‘Reigning Prince of Pop’ by the media.
